Laser Cutting & Laser Engraving

Laser Cutting Makerspace Formowanie Krakow

Laser Cutting, & Laser Engraving at Formowanie

Formowanie provides access to professional laser cutting and laser engraving in Kraków for makers, designers, artists, architects, students and businesses who want to turn digital designs into physical objects.

At the centre of the space is an Epilog Helix 50W CO₂ laser, capable of accurately cutting and engraving a wide range of materials. It can be used for everything from prototypes, architectural models and templates to signage, packaging, artwork, personalised products and small production runs.

The laser is part of the wider Formowanie makerspace, which means projects do not have to stop at laser cutting. Components can be combined with ceramics, 3D printing, screen printing, woodworking, leatherwork and other fabrication techniques available in the studio.

You can use the laser for an individual project, book machine time after appropriate training, learn the process through one of our workshops, or become a Formowanie member if you want regular access to the makerspace.

Laser Cutter, Materials & Capabilities

The laser cutting area at Formowanie is built around an Epilog Helix 50W CO₂ laser with a working area of approximately 610 × 457 mm. It can be used for precise cutting, engraving and marking across a wide range of creative and technical projects.

Common materials include plywood, MDF, acrylic, cardboard, paper, leather, cork and selected fabrics. The laser is particularly useful for architectural models, prototypes, signage, stencils, packaging, decorative objects, jigs, templates and personalised products.

Engraving can also be used to add text, logos, patterns and illustrations to suitable materials. For repeatable work or small production runs, digital files make it possible to reproduce the same design accurately across multiple pieces.

Projects are normally prepared from vector files such as SVG, DXF, AI or PDF, depending on the type of work. If you are unsure whether your material or file is suitable, contact us before booking and we can help you confirm the best approach.

Available capabilities: Laser cutting · Vector engraving · Raster engraving · Prototyping · Architectural models · Stencils & templates · Signage · Personalisation · Small production runs

Laser Cutting & Engraving Workshops in Kraków

If you are new to laser cutting, a workshop is the easiest way to learn how the machine works before booking it independently.

Our laser cutting workshops cover the basic workflow from preparing a digital file to choosing suitable materials, setting up the machine, adjusting cutting or engraving settings, and understanding the most important safety rules. You can learn how vector cutting and engraving differ, how to prepare clean files, and how different materials respond to the laser.

Workshops are suitable for complete beginners, students, designers, artists and makers who want to add laser cutting to their existing work. They can also be useful if you already have a project in mind and want guidance before using the machine on your own.

After completing the workshop or required introduction, you can continue by booking laser cutter time through the studio or by choosing a membership if you expect to use the equipment regularly.

Practical Information for Laser Cutting

Do I need experience to book the laser cutter?

Yes. Independent laser cutter bookings are intended for people who already have experience preparing files, setting up laser jobs and operating a laser cutter safely. For anyone without experience a private workshop is required before booking or you can have someone present to help set up the files and laser cutter.

If you already have sufficient experience, you can book the machine without completing prior training at Formowanie.

What if I have never used a laser cutter before?

Beginners should first book our private laser cutting workshop.

The workshop covers the complete process, including how to prepare and set up files, send jobs to the laser, choose appropriate settings, position materials, operate the machine and use it safely.

After learning the workflow, you can then use that knowledge for future laser-cutting projects and independent bookings.

What materials can I cut or engrave?

The Epilog Helix can work with many common materials including plywood, MDF, acrylic, cardboard, paper, cork, leather and selected fabrics.

Some materials are not suitable or safe for laser cutting, so please check with us before bringing anything unusual or unidentified.

Can I bring my own material?

Yes, provided the material is suitable and safe for laser cutting or engraving.

If you are unsure about the composition of a material, please contact us before booking. Unknown materials should not be placed in the laser.

What files should I prepare?

Laser-cutting projects are generally prepared using vector files such as SVG, DXF, AI or PDF. Raster images can also be used for engraving.

Your file should be correctly scaled and prepared before your booking so that your reserved machine time can be used efficiently.

Can Formowanie help prepare my file?

Yes. If you need help preparing or correcting a file, contact us before your booking. File preparation or design assistance may be charged separately depending on the amount of work required.

Beginners who want to learn how to prepare files themselves should book the private laser cutting workshop.

Can I use the laser cutter for commercial work?

Yes. The machine can be used for personal projects, prototypes, architectural models, artwork, small production runs and commercial work.

Can I book the laser without becoming a member?

Yes. Experienced users can book laser cutter time directly through our online booking system.

If you plan to use the laser or other Formowanie facilities regularly, a membership may provide a more convenient option.

Are there materials that cannot be used?

Yes. Certain materials can release harmful gases or damage the machine. PVC, vinyl and unidentified plastics must not be used without approval.

If you are unsure whether a material is suitable, contact us before booking.
