CNC Routing & Milling in Kraków

Formowanie is expanding its digital fabrication workshop with CNC routing and milling in Kraków, giving makers, designers, architects and small businesses access to computer-controlled machining without needing to purchase and maintain a CNC machine of their own.

CNC routing makes it possible to turn digital designs into accurately cut and machined physical parts. It is particularly useful for furniture, cabinetry, signs, prototypes, architectural models, moulds, templates, panels, jigs and custom components.

The CNC workshop is being developed as part of the wider Formowanie makerspace and will be available for independent projects, workshops and regular coworking access once the equipment is installed.

CNC Routing, Milling & Digital Fabrication

A CNC router uses computer-controlled movement to cut, shape and machine material directly from a digital design.

Unlike a laser cutter, which primarily cuts through material along a two-dimensional path, CNC machining can also create pockets, recesses, holes, grooves, profiles and three-dimensional surfaces. This makes it useful for both simple sheet cutting and more complex fabrication.

Typical CNC projects can include:

  • Furniture and furniture components

  • Shelving and cabinetry

  • Signs and lettering

  • Decorative wall panels

  • Architectural models

  • Product prototypes

  • Jigs and workshop fixtures

  • Templates and moulds

  • Joinery and fitted components

  • Custom parts and enclosures

  • Relief carving and 3D surfaces

  • Small production runs

CNC routing is especially useful for working with wood, plywood, MDF and other suitable sheet materials, with additional materials depending on the final machine and tooling available.

Because CNC machining is part of the wider Formowanie makerspace, projects can also be combined with woodworking, welding, laser cutting, 3D printing, electronics and other fabrication processes.

From Digital Design to Finished Part

CNC projects begin with a digital drawing or 3D model.

Parts can be designed using CAD software and then prepared in CAM software, where the cutting tools, machining operations, speeds, depths and tool paths are defined. The CNC machine then follows those programmed paths to manufacture the part.

This makes CNC routing particularly useful when accuracy and repeatability are important. Once a design has been prepared correctly, the same component can be produced repeatedly or adjusted digitally before another version is machined.

For designers and small businesses, this creates a practical workflow for moving from an idea to a prototype and eventually to small-scale production.

Build Furniture, Products & Prototypes

CNC routing can dramatically expand what can be produced in a shared workshop.

Furniture components can be cut accurately from sheet material, joints can be machined directly into parts, and complex shapes can be produced that would be difficult or time-consuming to make manually.

It is equally useful for smaller projects such as speaker enclosures, product housings, display systems, moulds, signage, templates and custom workshop tools.

For businesses or designers developing products, Formowanie can provide access to CNC fabrication without the expense of purchasing a machine, providing dedicated floor space and maintaining a complete CNC workshop.

Projects can also continue through other Formowanie departments. A CNC-cut product might use a welded metal frame, laser-engraved surface, 3D-printed component or electronic system, allowing several manufacturing processes to be combined in one place.

CNC Access at Formowanie

CNC routing and milling is coming soon to Formowanie.

Once the workshop is operational, experienced users will be able to access the CNC for suitable independent projects, while beginners will be able to learn the complete workflow through practical training and workshops.

Independent CNC operation will require appropriate knowledge of CAD/CAM preparation, tooling, workholding and safe machine operation. Beginners will therefore need training before operating the machine independently.

We also plan to offer regular access through Formowanie memberships for people who want to use CNC machining as part of an ongoing fabrication or product-development workflow.

CNC Routing Workshops in Kraków

CNC machining combines digital design with practical fabrication, so our future workshops will cover much more than simply operating the machine.

Beginners will learn how a digital drawing becomes a machined component, including CAD preparation, CAM setup, toolpaths, cutting tools, workholding, material setup and machine safety.

Workshops can also explore practical projects such as furniture components, signs, templates and prototypes, giving participants experience with the complete workflow from digital file to finished part.

Once trained, users will be able to continue developing their own CNC projects independently at Formowanie.

Practical Information About CNC Routing

What can a CNC router make?

CNC routing can be used for furniture, cabinetry, signage, prototypes, panels, templates, moulds, jigs, architectural models and many other accurately machined components.

What materials can be CNC routed?

Wood, plywood and MDF are common CNC-routing materials. Other materials may also be possible depending on the machine, tooling and project requirements.

The final approved materials list will be published once Formowanie’s CNC equipment is installed.

Do I need CAD experience?

For independent work, you will need a correctly prepared digital design and an understanding of how the part will be machined.

Beginners will be able to learn file preparation and CNC workflow through workshops and training.

Can I use CNC routing for commercial work?

Yes. The CNC workshop is intended for personal projects, prototyping, product development and suitable small-scale commercial production.

Can I produce furniture at Formowanie?

Yes. CNC routing is particularly useful for producing furniture components, joints, panels, templates and repeatable parts, especially when combined with Formowanie’s woodworking workshop.

Do I need experience to operate the CNC?

Yes. CNC machines require knowledge of tooling, workholding, machine setup, CAM preparation and safety.

Experienced users will be able to work independently once their competency is confirmed. Beginners will need training before operating the machine.

When will CNC access be available?

The CNC workshop is currently being developed. More information about the final machine, working area, booking and membership access will be published once the equipment is installed.
